Jon Decola 9.11.2026 - 12.31.2026 Narthex Gallery
Jon DeCola was a freshman photography student at Parsons School of Design in September 2001, having moved to NYC two weeks prior. Upon waking to the news of the collapse of the Twin Towers, he grabbed his camera, two rolls of film, and began walking south from his dorm on 12th Street. These images document what he encountered at ground zero and the surrounding area.
Between 2011-2016 he retraced his route, re-shooting every frame from the exact location. What began as a personal process of coping and reconciliation morphed into an unintended examination of downtown Manhattan, both in topology and spirit. A new narrative formed, one of resilience and change for the city and its inhabitants.
