Heart of the City Gala
10.26.2026
On one stage, three extraordinary pianists—Bill Charlap, Aaron Diehl and Arturo O’Farrill—will come together for a performance that could only happen at Saint Peter’s. While many may know these artists for the seven Grammy Awards they hold among them, here we know them as beloved members of the jazz community that has had its home at Saint Peter’s since 1965. As Arturo says of the Gala Concert, “we do this for la familia.”
Bill Charlap
Grammy award winning pianist Bill Charlap has performed with many of the leading artists of our time and is known for his interpretations of American popular song. Time magazine wrote, “Bill Charlap approaches a song the way a lover approaches his beloved…no matter how imaginative or surprising his take on a song is, he invariably zeroes in on its essence.”
Aaron Diehl
Pianist Aaron Diehl has quietly re-defined the lines between jazz and classical, and built a global career around his nuanced, understated approach to music-making. With an expansive, orchestral, lyrical approach to the piano that channels predecessors, Diehl has become a leader in contemporary jazz.
Arturo O’Farrill
Mexican American composer, pianist, and bandleader Arturo O'Farrill stands as a towering figure in contemporary music, renowned for his genre-defying virtuosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to social justice through music. O’Farrill bridges the gap between traditional Latin rhythms, modern jazz, and contemporary composition, continually pushing the boundaries of the art form while maintaining a profound connection to his roots.
